CAT tools (translation software)

CAT stands for Computer-Aided Translation, that is translation completed with the aid of specialized translation software.

This is specialized industry software (e.g. Trados, Transit, Idiom, Passolo, and Catalyst). Examples of translation software application:

• large-scale translation projects (handbooks, operating manuals, etc.) with consistent terminology and repeating terms, phrases, sentences, and sections, which are identified by the software and offered to the translator as a possible translation
• complicated translations, such as websites or computer programs, where the software enables the translator to extract the text to be translated, remembers its location, and re-inserts it after translation; this way, CAT software allows creating an identical copy of the original document in a foreign language
• projects for which a specific translation glossary has been or is to be created for potential use in other similar translations in the same field
• translation of a large document within a short period, where the use of CAT tools allows several translators to work on the project at the same time and ensures terminological consistency
• demanding translations from the viewpoint of DTP processing

A prerequisite for the use of computer aided translation tools is a source text in electronic form. This technology cannot be used to translate documents that exist in paper form. We are able to convert your paper documents into electronic form.
